Logistic, logistic, logistic...

Onset of ALS symptoms usually occurs in late middle age or later, although it also can occur in young adults, as well as in the elderly.

Less than 1 month away! The excitement and anxiety are building. Just wanted to let you know what has been going on behind the scenes in preparation for this Bike Palooza!

Miles and miles on the bike! I know the 4 of us who will be riding the entire route are packing on the miles and attempting to add as many hills as possible when we can. We are trying not to overtrain but certainly want our legs and butts to be ready! Along with the riding comes lots of stretching and other self care remedies as we are able! There are purchases of additional bike supplies being made and boxes are starting to get packed for our support vehicles. Cars and bikes are being tuned up to ensure they are all running properly!

Logistics of the route - Dave and Steve have been incredibly busy securing lodging for each night on the road. We will have a combination of Air BnBs, hotels and even staying one night at Rod's place. Doug has made flight reservations for Charlie to join us once his finals are completed and our son Danny and his wife Kristen, will be picking him up in Pittsburgh and getting him to us along the route, hopefully near Cleveland. Various friends have volunteered to cook us meals along the way. I know there is also a behind the scenes effort to solicit donations to offset the cost of lodging, food, gas etc. Doug and I are so grateful for all of the efforts to make this happen.

Fundraising!!! We will most likely hit $30,000 today once some recent donations have posted! That means we are only $20,000 away from our goal of $50,000! For those of you who know me, I am hoping we surpass that goal! We are hoping to provide much needed funds to support the research that is desperately needed to fund a cure. Thank you to everyone who has already donated.

Shirts!!! Dave's former wealth management firm, Foster and Motley have graciously donated cycling jerseys and helped us with the design. We are so very excited to be able to showcase them along the route. We will also have T shirts made up to help spread the word. Thank you to Foster and Motley, Dave, Betsy, and Todd!

Celebrations!!! Although we don't want to celebrate too early since we haven't even hit the road yet, we do need to plan for celebrations once the ride is done. We are planning a gathering on Friday, June 30th as we enter Boxford, MA, hopefully arriving between 2:00 and 3:00pm. We would love for anyone and everyone to join us on the corner of Middleton Road and Elm Street in East Boxford as we complete this journey! There will be an additional celebration at our house on Saturday, July 1st, at 12:00 noon - 6 Pheasant Lane in Topsfield. All are welcome. As we need to plan for food for both, please RSVP letting us know how many will attend as soon as possible if you think you can make it: mciltopsfield@comcast.net. This would be incredibly helpful and much appreciated. We would love to see you all!!!

Well, that's it for now as I need to get back on the bike! Thank you all for your support, so much more that I'm sure I have not even mentioned... Thank you for checking in on our ride and we hope to see you either on the road and/or at our final celebrations!!!

With much hope...

Dolly
