It's a Wrap!

Just a few final words. I have felt so privileged to be a part of this event. It is truly hard to believe that what began as a very small idea blossomed into an incredible adventure that created memories that will last a lifetime. Who would have believed that this bike ride would serve as a catalyst for so many connections to be re-established. Or that we would far surpass our initial fundraising goal of $25,000 by almost $100,000 as we are nearing $125,000! Thanks Dave Foster for making this crazy idea become a reality that far surpassed any expectations!

I have been touched and forever changed by the loyalty, comradery and love from Doug's Alpha Delta Phi fraternity brothers and extended network of friends. I am in awe of the support we have received from generous friends, family and strangers along the way. I am moved to think that the money raise will help so many people who are hopelessly battling this terrible disease. I am impressed with the grit and tenacity that was shown by the many riders who joined us for all or part of this journey. And, I am in amazed at the planning and organizing skills of Dave Foster, Steve Lopez and Susan Warner. This event truly took on a life of it's own and I want to thank each and every one of you for the part you played in making it happen. Our love and gratitude for you all is overflowing. I wish I could bottle these feelings so that I can access them in the future when things get tough. I just don't want this experience to end!

After the spectacular celebration at the finish line in Boxford, the crew came back to our house for a dinner hosted by Doug's brother Bruce and his wife Weezie. We were able to share stories and spend some time reflecting on what had just transpired.

Saturday, we had another celebration, hosted by our daughter Emily with help from Meg, Susan, Claudia, Joanne and a few others! More fraternity brothers and MU friends flew in to join us as well as family and friends from near and far. Thank you all for sharing in our excitement. As had been promised, the Alpha Delts performed their "Sweetheart" song for me and the hometown crew also had a song they created and performed. Just a perfect ending for an unbelievable odyssey!

We were blessed with some amazing media coverage which certainly propelled the fundraising to new heights. (Thank you Angus McQuilkin for helping me to create a media strategy and to Kristina Matos - Osorio for getting the ball rolling.)
