90 - 95% of diagnosed ALS cases are not hereditary.
Last night I had a moment where the reality of Doug's ALS diagnosis hit me and I began to feel sad and vulnerable. I think it's easy to be positive while he is progressing so slowly but the fact of the matter is, he does have ALS and this disease is so very cruel. In the face of this diagnosis, it has been so very powerful to see what this adventure has become - so much more than what we ever expected. It feels like it is a snowball that is rolling down hill getting bigger every day. Many of you who know me, know how much I appreciate the music of the Adam Ezra Group. One of his songs truly speaks to my feelings last night and I just wanted to share it here if you care to listen...
Today's riding was another great day. Slow and steady for about 68 miles. Some hills toward the end and some crosswinds and headwinds off Lake Erie but all in all, a great day. Our newest arrival, Frank hung tough with the group on his longest ride yet. Great job by the entire Team of riders sticking together and pulling each other along.

The support crew continues to perfect their performance finding amazing rest stops and setting up for all of our needs. They have now coined themselves the LGs for the Luggage Guys and are really pushing for hats to show their professionalism in their work.

Maryanne Foster is now up for a medal as she retrieved some very important medication that was left behind in the last Air Bnb as she traveled north with their dog Scout to Erie to join us for a few days. JJ - Jim Jorling, another Alpha Delt and his wife Kathy and their daughter Ellie and their Cockapoo Ruthie also joined us tonight. JJ will be joining the riding crew for the next 3 days and the LGs are pushing for Ellie to join them!
We all went down to the lake front to a great beer garden called Oliver's for dinner. We sat outside and the dogs were able to join us! A fabulous way to end the day!

Tomorrow, we will do it all over again!
With hope,
