Camaraderie, Team Building and Connections

Currently, there is no cure for ALS and no effective treatment to halt or reverse the progression of the disease. However, there are treatments that may modify or slow the disease course, as well as therapies that can help control symptoms, prevent unnecessary complications, and make living with the disease easier.

Today was a rest day; a much appreciated day off the bikes. We started with a very leisurely morning enjoying multiple cups of coffee, or in Dave's case, tea; expired oatmeal (sorry Dave); a little stretching in the morning sun and tossing the softball on the back lawn. Steve was a champion domestique and took time to work on the shifting of my bike as it was skipping gears every so often ever since our mud/rain ride. Charlie slept in until almost 11:00am but woke just in time to welcome another fraternity brother, Pete Ort who came to visit bearing delicious baked goods and energy bars! I think the last time Doug and I saw Pete was at our wedding in 1987.

Once Pete arrived, we mobilized into the vehicles and drove to Geneva on the Lake. Think Hampton or Salisbury beach but even a little more honkey-tonk. Rod told us the place to eat was Eddie's Grill for world famous hot-dogs and Pete treated us to lunch! Thanks Pete. After lunch, we had a lively game of mini golf or putt putt as Dave calls it. Six of us made it into the Hole in One Club with Scott actually making two holes in one! The 18 holes left us weary and ready to head back to the Air BnB with just enough time to clean up and head out to dinner.

Dinner was a delightful feast hosted by Nancy(O'Brien) and Jim Adams in their beautiful back yard. Nancy was a Little Sis for the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity brothers and graciously offered to host us for a wonderful meal. Joining the festivities were Ann Brown Miller, Nancy Eigel, Ed Colleran and Frank Marsico who will join the riding crew tomorrow! Welcome Frank. Neal Restivo made another appearance and took home the Welcome Back Kotter Award as he keeps reappearing!!! Maybe he'll even surprise us by making it to the party in Topsfield on July 1st! It was a pleasure to meet Nancy and Jim's daughter Grace who took on the role of official photographer of the night as old friends reconnected and reminisced.

For some reason, many of the riders were more tired today after a day of rest than we were yesterday. Hoping we all get a good rest and will be ready to roll to Erie, PA tomorrow!
